Surgical Treatment of Spinal Injury

Although the surgical techniques and instrumentation for repair of spinal fractures have progressed substantially, there is a relative lack of uniformity in the surgical management of spinal trauma because of a lack of good class I evidence and guidelines for a majority of spinal injuries. The surgical indications and approaches taken to manage spinal trauma vary greatly among spine surgeons. Instrumentation continues to have a significant role in the stabilization of some unstable fractures.
