Green's Operative Hand Surgery 2010
Surgical Approaches to the Brachial Plexus
Authors’ Philosophy for C5-6 Injury
In the majority of patients with C5-6 loss of function, we explore the brachial plexus and perform intraoperative recordings. In a patient with a nonrecovering postganglionic injury (i.e., a postganglionic neuroma-in-continuity with a negative NAP or a postganglionic nerve rupture), we typically reinnervate the shoulder by using interpositional grafts between the C5 nerve stump and the posterior division of the upper trunk and suprascapular nerve. Another option that we may use for shoulder reinnervation is an interpositional graft between the C5 nerve stump and the posterior division of the upper trunk combined with transfer of the spinal accessory nerve to the suprascapular nerve. In patients in whom a functional C5 nerve stump is not identified or in those explored late (more than 6 to 9 months after injury), we perform double nerve transfers (to axillary and suprascapular nerves) for shoulder reinnervation. Our preferred technique include a spinal accessory nerve transfer to the suprascapular nerve and a triceps motor branch transfer to the anterior motor branch of the axillary nerve...

Brain and Spinal Tumors of Childhood
A few months before the publication of this book, Joachin Kühl succumbed to a brain tumour.
It is an absurd fate for a physician to die of the disease against which he dedicated a great part of his professional life and his research.
Joachin Kühl graduated at the University of Wurzburg where he became responsible physician for the paediatric oncology department in 1979.
In 1981 he completed his training in paediatrics, becoming a professor of paediatrics in 1994 and Extraordinary Professor in 2002.
In 1987 Joachin Kühl founded the German Brain Tumour Study Group.
The idea for this book arose during the mid-1990s, when the editors and authors were meeting each other in the specialized neuro-oncology multidisciplinary teams that were developing in children’s hospitals, the national and international meetings where advances in clinical practice and applied research were reported, and the strengthening national and international clinical trials groups developing in Europe and the USA.-The Editors:DAVID A. WALKER, GIORGIO PERILONGO, JONATHAN A. G. PUNT AND ROGER E. TAYLOR

Endoscopic and Microsurgical Anatomy of the Cranial Base
Neuroendoscopic transnasal surgical approaches have become increasingly common
for some time, and have started to replace microsurgical techniques in pituitary surgery.Endoscopic transnasal approaches have also been recently used in some neurosurgical centres to reach pre- and retrosellar areas and targets localized in the basal cisterns. One major factor is the localization of the carotid artery between the siphon and aperture externa of the carotid canal at the base of the petrous bone. Prof. em. Dr. med. Wolfgang Seeger

neurochirurgia 2010

European Manual of Medicine - Neurosurgery
Foreword of the Series Editors:The third volume of the European Manual of Medicine series is Neurosurgery. The aim is to provide neurosurgery trainees with a comprehensive, yet condensed, guide to the core knowledge required in this speciality, and to give them the ability to work in their speciality in the entire European Union. The volume editors Prof. Christianto B. Lumenta, Munich/Germany; Prof. Concezio Di Rocco, Rome/Italy; Prof. Jens Haase, Aalborg/Denmark; and Prof. Jan Jakob A. Mooij, Groningen/The Netherlands, leading European experts in Neurosurgery, recruited contributors from different European countries to compile a textbook that fulfils our original concept of the European Manual of Medicine series.
